The New Orleans Saints stopped using mouthware technology, so is this why they are not winning Super Bowls?

Richard McLean
It was back in October 2009 when Sean Peyton, head coach of the New Orleans Saints, held an early morning meeting with his players.
He called the team meeting to ask if any of them would be interested in trying out a new mouthguard that would not only protect their teeth, but also help them perform better on the field.
By 9:30 am the players arrived at the cafeteria at the New Orleans practice facility. No one could have predicted what would happen in the coming months; that meeting now serves as an historic event in the team’s history and for the NFL.
One-by-one the players lined up to get fitted with a performance mouthguard that just hit the market. Most of the players had nothing to lose with getting fitted. Those who were skeptics however never got fitted.
Interestingly enough, the players who were fitted quickly noticed an improvement in their athletic performance on the field. And fans too noticed a positive difference among many players during regular season games.
The news of the Saints utilizing new mouthware technology took the football world by storm. On Monday Night Football during the fourth-quarter, host John Gruden revealed to millions of viewers the secret weapon the Saints were wearing in their mouths. Yes, a magic mouthguard was helping the team march to the playoffs.
The public was intrigued, the media asked questions, and everyone was talking about a new concept in the world of sports. Was it a small mouthguard that was giving the Saints players an edge on the field?
Where is the science to prove such a modality?
Well most NFL players have TMJ issues, and once that is corrected, then watch out! You will have any football player perform like he was in high school. There is no magic, just a mouthguard that corrects a bite and puts the TMJ in a comfortable position. In return, you get many benefits, such as increase balance, range of motion and flexibility. Do you think the correction of the TMJ is the fountain of youth? Well a lot of the Saints players were playing like they were 18 again. Just ask Peyton…. just ask Gruden.
Then in February 2010 the Saints made it to their first Super Bowl appearance to face the Indiana Colts, a team that was on fire and who won the big-game two years earlier. It all went down to the wire in the beautiful city of Miami, and the Saints were ready to give it their all.
Two days before the huge game, Jonathan Vilma, defensive playmaker, actually had his performance mouthguard stolen from the locker room. It was clear that someone knew the device gave him and his teammates an advantage. In a panic, Vilma quickly called to organize another mouthguard so he could play like he was meant.
Yes, on the evening of the Super Bowl, the Saints did win, and the player with the winning touchdown was wearing a performance mouthguard.
The question still remains today? Was the mouthgaurd one of the contributing factors with the Saints winning the Super Bowl? Or was it just all a coincidence? The Saints have not won a Super Bowl since.
The testimonials from the players were increased balance and feeling less winded on the field.
This makes perfect sense as the performance mouthguard brought the lower jaw down and forward, which increased the diameter of the windpipe, decreased forward head posture, giving a player more lung capacity and therefore allowing more oxygen into the system. The balance can be easily explained by reliving the nerve called Cranial Nerve V, which controls balance. This nerve is close to the TMJ system, and when the lower jaw comes down and forward, this increases the possibility of freedom of this nerve.
The only way we will ever know if the performance mouthguard contributed to an NFL team winning the Super Bowl, is to wait for the next team to try this product, and sit back and watch the results of hopefully another Super Bowl contender.
If you are a football player and are looking for new and innovative performance mouthware, then check out the technology that New Age Performance Inc. is offering athletes. Their mouthguard and mouthpiece devices are helping athletes perform better during training and in their sport of choice.
